the best sites charge just to list, it’s a cost of doing business, the small price you pay will be offset by the exposure you get with the net. start on ebay, autotrader, cars they all charge, but they are the most viewed and you will get business from it. Advertising isn’t free.

Then be prepared for buyers to come and not buy. 70%. Most will fly people in and yet still do not describe car good enough to not have t let people out of deal w/o any recourse and paying a 2 way fare. If not you will only increase that 70%.

To sell a car online, it’s best to disclose as much information about the car as possible – to ensure that the buyers know exactly what they’re buying and to reduce the likelihood of the buyers backing out – as 12pleze has mentioned, people do come in and may not buy because car ads generally do not disclose/descirbe the car well enough.
One of the reasons why ebay motors is successful is because it forces you to disclose information about the car – so buyers will know exactly what they’re buying and hence, the probability of actually selling the car is much higher (and also of course, a bid on ebay is a legally binding contract). The bottomline, in order to get people to bid/buy online, the ad has to disclose as much information about the car as possible.
You may want to try http://www.autoadwriter.com . It helps you create detailed and professional car ads very easily, and you can then paste the ad into craigslist or kijiji or any car forums on the Internet. Best of all, http://www.autoadwriter.com is free!
Hope this helps.
