How much would it cost to ship a car from Birmingham, AL to Atlantic City, NJ?

Oh yeah, it’s a 1975 Audi 100 LS… if that matters.

Is there reliable public transport from the Rapid City South Dakota airport to Badlands National Park?

I want to visit the Badlands, and would be flying into the nearest city (Rapid City, South Dakota), which is still 50 miles away. I don’t really want to rent a car at $50/day just for transport to and from the airport, so is there reliable public transportation that could get me there? A bus line, etc.?

I’ll be 24 when I take a trip to new york city and I want to rent car, will my age for renting be a problem?

I have the title and bill of sale ready to go. But NYSDMV says when I sell the car I give the buyer a bill of sale, the title, destroy the registration and take the plates. But if the car is on the street without registration/plates it will get a ticket. How do I give a bill of sale/title and not take the plates? How does the buyer get new plates/registration if I don’t give a bill of sale and title? Seems like a catch 22.

The City of Detroit Welcomes the Return of World-Class Auto Racing

The return of world-class auto racing to the Motor City provided edge-of-the-seat excitement in 2007. Enhanced competition on the racetrack coupled with more entertainment options and increased fan comfort features, makes the Grand Prix an even hotter ticket event in 2008.

The 2007 event drew more than 100,000 fans flocking to Belle Isle over Labor Day weekend. But event planners are raising the bar even higher when it comes to the 2008 event, which include live musical entertainment, special discounts and weekend packages to make the event accessible to families and die-hard race fans. In addition, improvements to grandstand seating and transportation service off and on the island are also in the works.

The Grand Prix delivers value for the entertainment with tickets, on average, remaining virtually the same as they were over a decade ago for world-class auto racing in the city of Detroit. Keeping with a Grand Prix tradition in Detroit, Friday is Free Prix Day, where everyone is admitted free of charge. Special Motor City Club hospitality packages are also available, featuring reserved grandstand seating, paddock pass, a program and hat, as well as access to premiere food and beverage service at the Motor City Club chalet.

The 982-acre island in the Detroit River, Belle Isle became home to the Detroit Grand Prix from 1992-2001, utilizing a temporary street circuit that was constructed specifically for the CART races. In 2007, it once again hosted world-class racing with both the open-wheel cars of the IndyCar Series and the sports cars of the American Le Mans Series competing in the event.

Connected by the MacArthur Bridge, various entities call Belle Isle home, including the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, the Detroit Boat Club, the Detroit Yacht Club, a golf course, aquarium, and Coast Guard post. The island also includes a half-mile swimming beach, the only one in the city, and a nature center.

The Belle Isle aquarium opened in 1904, making it the oldest public aquarium in the United States. Landscaped by famed landscape architect Frederick L. Olmsted, the highlights of Belle Isle are the aquarium, Scott Fountain and the botanical garden in the Anna Scrips Whitcomb Conservatory. Belle Isle was also home to a large herd of European fallow deer for more than 50 years. A few remain as exhibits at the nature center, but the last of the 300 animals was captured in 2004 and relocated.

On Friday, Free Prix Day, guests enjoy practice and qualifying runs for the American Le Mans and IndyCar Series. Throughout the day, Meijer Fun Zone activities will be available. After 4:30 p.m., guests may gather at Firestone Paddock for Happy Hour. Saturday’s events kick off with warm-up and race events for the American Le Mans Series, followed by practice and qualifying for the IndyCar Series. Driver autograph sessions for both series and a post-race concert bring the day to an exciting conclusion. Sunday’s highlight is the 90-lap IndyCar Series warm-up and race. More family fun activities will be featured, along with an IndyCar Fan Forum and post-race concert.

Throughout the weekend, Corvette enthusiasts gather together with fellow Corvette owners and collectors to enjoy a display with more than 300 Corvettes during the Corvette Car Corral. Single and two-day ticket packages are available for purchase and are offered exclusively to Corvette owners.

In attending the Belle Isle Grand Prix, attendees will also be doing their part to help a true Detroit treasure – Belle Isle Park. The Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is being organized and promoted by a subsidiary of the Downtown Detroit Partnership whose chairman is Roger Penske. This charitable organization has been established to enable the net proceeds of the Grand Prix to fund measures to preserve and improve Belle Isle.

The Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is a signature event in what’s expected to be one of the most exciting weekends in Detroit history. “3 Days in the D” will take place on Labor Day weekend and will consist of the Grand Prix, the Detroit International Jazz Festival and Oakland County’s Arts, Beats & Eats celebration.

As the automotive capital of the world and home to General Motors, the Ford Motor Company, and Chrysler, Detroit is a city built by cars. From the stunning mansions built by auto barons to sprawling automotive facilities, the automobile has left its mark the city and its people. Detroiters love their cars. Events such as the North American International Auto Show, the Grand Prix, and the Woodward Dream Cruise attract record crowds. Still more head to the racing excitement of Michigan International Speedway for Indy car action.

Detroit’s booming new industry created new jobs which drew people from throughout Europe and African Americans from the South for work. Between 1900 and 1930, the city’s population grew from 265,000 to more than 1.5 million. Led by the auto barons, Detroit’s cultural scene also blossomed. The downtown flourished with new buildings, museums and theaters built by the world’s top architects. One of the most enjoyable ways to experience Detroit’s automotive heritage is by exploring the wealth it created. And in Detroit, there’s no shortage of wealth to explore.

A visit to the Model T Automotive Heritage Complex reveals where it all began. The birthplace of the automobile assembly line, the Heritage Complex is the only example of an early Detroit auto factory open to visitors. Guests also learn about the lives of the typical autoworkers in 1908, including their 10-hour workdays and 6-day workweeks.

Next, experience the luxury of the auto elite with a tour of Fair Lane, Henry and Clara Ford’s beautiful country home estate. Named one of “America’s 10 grandest mansions” by Budget Travel Magazine, this 31,000-square-foot, six-level, 56-room home is where the Fords entertained some of the world’s most influential people.

Afterward, visit the Edsel and Eleanor Mansion in scenic Grosse Pointe Shores. At the home of Henry Ford’s only child, Edsel, visitors see original antique furnishings, an impressive collection of fine and decorative art, and much more in the breathtaking 60-room Cotswold mansion. Visitors may also stroll the 87 acres of lakefront gardens and grounds.

The Ford family was not the only auto player in town. Lawrence Fisher was one of the founders of Fisher Body Company and President of Cadillac Motors. The Fisher Mansion estate was considered one of the most lavish residences of its time with its gold and silver leafing accenting the ceilings and moldings. The black walnut and rosewood parquet floors are an impressive sight as well.

Spectacular Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester was the home of Matilda Dodge Wilson, and her second husband, lumber baron Alfred G. Wilson. Completed in 1929, Meadow Brook Hall is considered an American castle and is among the finest homes in the country. The 88,000-square-foot Tudor revival-style mansion is filled with authentic furnishings, priceless art and striking antiques. The estate’s 16 gardens and 42 urns surrounding the hall are a testament to the talented design work of English landscape artist Arthur Davidson.

Detroit’s endless auto heritage stories can also be found in the city’s area museums. The Detroit Historical Museum in Midtown recreates the cobblestone streets of Old Detroit, along with its neighborhoods which were shaped by the auto industry. The museum’s Transportation History Collection focuses solely on the products of Detroit-based companies, as well as the tastes and forces that shaped the American transportation market. Currently, the museum is building their collection of the 100 most significant Detroit cars, some of which are on view.

Across the street is the Detroit Institute of Arts, which was once saved from closing by Edsel and Eleanor Ford, who also helped establish its remarkable collection. Edsel Ford, president of the Detroit Arts Commission, commissioned the famous Diego Rivera “Detroit Industry” mural contained within the museum. The Firestone and Dodge families were also major patrons of the museum. He was also an early collector of African art and his contributions were a part of the core of the original DIA African art collection.

The Automotive Hall of Fame preserves the history of mobility by celebrating the creativity, toil and genius of its makers. Visitors follow the “Driving Spirit” as he leads them through time to observe the many people who have left their mark in the auto industry.

The Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills sits beneath the shadow of the Daimler Chrysler World Headquarters. The museum houses more than 65 vehicles showcasing the company’s American heritage interspersed with displays and historical exhibits.
